With the deadline for an agreement between the Medical University of South Carolina Health and Cigna Healthcare looming, the two sides approved a 60-day extension to allow for additional time to negotiate a long-term contract.
The new contract expiration date is August 31, 2026.
MUSC officials stressed that at this time, no action is required from patients.
Both sides said they remain committed to reaching a new long-term agreement and contractual framework.

MUSC Health said its current agreement with Cigna Healthcare is scheduled to expire and discussions between the two organizations are ongoing. The current contract is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2026.
If an agreement is not reached by then, MUSC Health hospitals and physicians may become out-of-network for Cigna members beginning July 1.
Patients currently receiving care at MUSC Health should continue to keep scheduled appointments.
MUSC Health said it will continue to provide updates as discussions progress.
