Emory Healthcare is announcing that, effective September 1, 2026, UnitedHealthcare’s contract with Emory Houston Healthcare facilities will be terminated, specifically for Medicare Advantage, Commercial, and Exchange plans.

It does appear that this termination is connected with the consolidation of Emory Houston Healthcare into the contracts for Emory Healthcare, which are not affected by this negotiation.

However, patients should be aware that consolidation situations can, and sometimes do, result in temporary lapses in network coverage as the contracts are realigned. This is a known issue that affects nearly all health system acquisitions at some point during the integration process.

Emory Houston patients are advised to call ahead for appointments scheduled on or after September 1, to (a) ensure that their claims can be filed using the Emory Healthcare contract or to (b) confirm they need to temporarily re-schedule their appointments for later dates while the contracts are being aligned.
