Patients of Avina Women’s Care could face changes to their health coverage this fall if the central Ohio medical group and UnitedHealthcare do not reach a new contract agreement.
Avina’s current agreement with UnitedHealthcare is scheduled to expire on September 30, 2026. Both sides said negotiations are continuing, but they have not reached a deal to keep Avina’s OB-GYN and primary care providers in-network.
In a statement, UnitedHealthcare said it remains in negotiations with Avina and is seeking an agreement before the contract expires. Avina is seeking a nearly 18% price increase over the next three years for care covered by UnitedHealthcare commercial plans, according to a source familiar with the negotiations.
“Avina Women’s Care remains committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care to the Ohio community,” Avina Medical Director Dr. Sangeeta Crouser said in a statement. “We have been engaged in good-faith negotiations with UnitedHealthcare to reach a fair agreement that preserves in-network access for our patients.”
Important: Women who are currently pregnant and under care, as well as others with serious conditions actively in treatment, may qualify for continuity of care. Affected members should dial the number on the back of their UHC member ID card to discuss their options and obtain paperwork from UnitedHealthcare.
