Sentara Health notified Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia that it intends to allow certain commercial, Medicare and Medicaid contracts to expire if the two organizations do not reach a new agreement.
The current contracts will begin to expire on December 31, 2026. Medicaid agreements remain in effect through January 28, 2027.
Sentara announced the decision Thursday, July 31, after what it described as more than eight months of negotiations. The health system said the affected agreements cover nearly 380,000 Anthem members in Virginia.
