Texas Tech University Health Science Center and Texas Tech Physicians have reached an agreement with UnitedHealthcare, retroactively effective to April 1.
Patients should experience no further disruptions in coverage. Claims for services received between April 31, 2026, and July 31, 2026, will automatically be reprocessed.

UMC Health System is clarifying in-network access for patients covered by United Healthcare following the expiration of a contract between Texas Tech Health Sciences Center providers and the insurance company. The contract expired on March 31, 2026, affecting tens of thousands of people.
While HSC providers may deliver care in UMC facilities, their services are billed separately and are no longer considered in-network for United Healthcare plans. Members may thus receive an out-of-network billing statement if HSC/Texas Tech providers were used, even if services were rendered at a UMC hospital.
Patients are encouraged to confirm provider affiliations before medical care is rendered. Those with questions should call the number on the back of their insurance card.
