Blue KC vs North Kansas City Health

North Kansas City Health (NKC Health) announced this week it will no longer be able to accept insurance from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) due to what it said is the insurance company’s failure to meet its demands. The insurance company, however, disputes those claims, saying it’s willing to negotiate.

In a letter sent to patients with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, NKC Health informed patients that the hospital will no longer be an in-network healthcare provider for the insurance company starting on May 31.

Blue KC says NKC Health sent them a contract termination notice in early March, effective June 1 and that they “have prepared multiple resources to help members find in-network providers and care, support for continuity of care and local customer service.”

On and after June 1, 2026, Blue KC members will still be able to receive emergency care at NKC Health emergency departments. Emergency care is always covered at the in-network cost for members.
