UConn Health announced Friday it has reached a new multiyear agreement with Cigna, avoiding a disruption for about 14,000 patients whose coverage could have been affected after the prior contract expired on April 30.
The deal contrasts with UConn Health’s recent, more contentious negotiations with Aetna, which led to a temporary contract lapse.
Fair reimbursement was the main sticking point that led UConn Health into a months-long impasse with Aetna Inc. after their previous contract expired at midnight November 30. UConn Health and Aetna eventually reached a new multiyear deal in February.
UConn Health also reached a new multiyear deal with United Healthcare in January.
